Beyond Activation –Towards a Liberating Vision for Adult Guidance in an emerging Ireland

The Adult Guidance and Counselling Department (Adult & Community Education), Maynooth University hosted a conference entitled Beyond Activation –Towards a Liberating Vision for Adult Guidance in an emerging Ireland, for adult guidance practitioners on 16 April, 2016.

Professor Hazel Reid (Canterbury Christ Church University, UK) addressed the changing nature of employment and careers and explored the potential use of narrative in career counselling in her keynote speech.

A range of participatory workshops were on offer, including a very popular workshop on Skype Guidance by our very own Rico Stein, Kerry Adult Guidance and Information Service.

The conference offered a unique opportunity for guidance counsellors from different sectors, including AEGI, Prison Service and Intreo to network and share experience.

Feedback in the plenary session affirmed the critical role of guidance in enabling people to make informed career and educational choices in a climate of high unemployment and active labour market policy.
